NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Firefighters quickly extinguished an apartment complex fire in North Austin that began in an attic on Thursday afternoon.

According to fire officials, a three-story apartment complex at the 8800 block of North Interstate 35 caught fire for reasons that remain unclear. The building is located about a mile south of Rundberg Lane.

Photos tweeted by fire officials show heavy billows of smoke emanating from the building. Crews responded to the scene at around 3:30 p.m. to battle the 2-alarm conflagration. By 4 p.m., fire officials said the fire was under control some 30 minutes after their arrival.

There’s no word on injuries or what may have caused the blaze to spark, but a spate of recent fires amid colder weather have been blamed on space heaters placed too closely to flammable materials.
